In our series “Jazz in the schools”, children from all levels of schools can come to the bird’s eye, the place where jazz musicians work, to experience at first hand such things as how to establish a rhythm or how to improvise on a theme together. They learn how musicians communicate with each other on stage, as well as how they are able to express themselves freely in a given form.
They sing melodies they hear; they clap and stomp their feet on off beats; they even play on their own instruments at their own skill level. Afterwards, jazz music is no longer an abstract concept but a profound personal experience that can make a lasting impression on them.
Each of our workshops has its own focus and content and can be discussed in advance with the instructors so they can adapt the session to the individual needs and level of each class.
We regularly offer workshops with experienced instructors from the Basel area. With advance notice, these workshops can be conducted at any time.
In addition, when the musicians have experience teaching school classes, we can also organize courses and workshops with bands performing at the bird’s eye whose projects might be of interest to and appropriate for young people.
